Join Padraig the dragon and Roger the turtle in the book The Dragon and the Turtle Go on Safari by Donita K. Paul and Evangeline Denmark. As a grown up who loves dragon stories, I had to pick this book to review with my kids, it just made sense! As soon as it was delivered the kids eagerly asked for me to open the package and read the book. They sat with rapt attention as we read about Padraig and Roger camping in the wild outdoors. The pictures are creative and cute, as Padraig and Roger imagine what the noises they hear could be coming from. Throughout the story, Padraig and Roger teach children some very important life lessons, helping others and being courageous.
Both kids loved this book and its illustrations. I loved this book for the story and for what it teaches, and how it teaches it. It also includes a silly “bonus” story, but I won’t spoil the fun of finding out what it’s about! At the end it has a Bible verse (Deut. 31:6) and some ideas for parents to talk with their children about. The one downside to the story is that is it geared more for older kids who have longer attention spans. But surprisingly, our young children (almost 4 and almost 2) sat and listened to the whole thing!
Our favorite character is Padraig because he’s just cute. Who doesn’t love a little red dragon?
