I’ve been reading/working through “A Wife After God’s Own Heart” by Elizabeth George and journalling my thoughts from the chapters. This is for chapter 1.
3 Steps to Spiritual Growth
1. Discover God’s desires through the Bible.
2. Discern meaning of reading.
3. Do what you’ve read.
Spiritual growth requires discipline and self-denial. It’s impossible to grow if you don’t make yourself make time for it. It’s also impossible to do when you don’t put God first. Keeping your own desires in a place of priority over God’s desires means you’re not really seeking God’s best for your life. If you don’t look for God’s best, you remain stagnant spiritually.
When you seek God’s will for your life, you grow. When you grow, behavior changes, relationships change, and you reap God’s blessing(s).
Matthew 6:33 – “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
“…these things” refer to basic needs mentioned in verse 31; food, drink, clothes. If you worry about those things more than God’s will for your life, your priorities are off. When you seek His will, He takes care of the rest. That doesn’t mean you don’t have to, just don’t put them before God.
